Aranda de Duero is the capital of Ribera del Duero and lies on the River Duero. We walked around admiring the Santa María la Real built during the 15th and 16th centuries and San Juan, a church older than Santa Maria in the gothic style, which still has its fortified defensive tower. The quaint town centre had several narrow streets with old houses, and it felt like everybody knew everybody else. Under the town centre there is a labyrinth of cellars, called bodegas, that were dug between the 12th and 17th centuries. Their original purpose was to store the food and wine that makes Ribera del Duero famous. It was a wonderful place for a conference on traditional games.
